Morrice school board took up tax levy, resource officer deal July 22
The July 22 regular meeting agenda listed resolutions on the property tax levy, the School Loan Revolving Fund and a school resource officer contract, plus a first reading of 16 policies including one on artificial intelligence.
The Morrice Area Schools Board of Education met July 22 at 6 p.m. at Morrice Jr./Sr. High School, 691 Purdy, for its regular meeting, according to the agenda posted by the district.
The agenda listed four action items tied to district finances and safety. Board members were set to vote on a resolution to approve the property tax levy, a resolution on the School Loan Revolving Fund, and a resolution to approve a school resource officer contract. The agenda did not include dollar figures for any of the three items.
Also under action items were three purchases: a quote from JPerez Construction, a quote for IXL, and a quote for an elementary freezer from Culinary Products. The agenda listed no amounts for the quotes and did not describe the scope of the construction work.
Two student-facing documents were on the action list as well — the 2026-27 Morrice Student/Parent Handbook and the MSAC Constitution for 2026-2027. The 2026-27 Course Guide and the 2026-27 Instructional Staff Handbook were placed on the consent agenda, along with the minutes of the June 24 special budget hearing and June 24 regular meeting, the treasurer's and other financial reports dated June 30, 2026, and the personnel report.
The board also had a first reading of 16 policies scheduled for discussion. They included PO #7540.09 on artificial intelligence, PO #5136 on wireless communications devices, PO #2418 on sex education, PO #2417 on comprehensive school health education, PO #6320 on purchasing, PO #6325 on procurement of federal grants and funds, PO #8402 on the emergency operations plan, PO #8655 on specialized transportation for students with IEPs, PO #5336 on care of students with disabilities, and separate volunteer policies numbered 3120.09, 4120.09 and 8120.09. First readings are discussion items and do not carry a vote under the agenda as written.
Three other discussion items were listed without supporting detail: bond updates, staffing and superintendent goals. The meeting agenda shows board members Dennis, Wyzga, Iler, Hovis, Hower, Binkley and Moncur on the roll call, with President Jerry Dennis calling the meeting to order.
The notice states the meeting is a public meeting of the Board of Education for conducting district business and includes a time for public participation, and it directs anyone needing an accommodation for a disability to contact the superintendent's office at 517-625-3142 at least five days in advance.
What happens next
The agenda does not record how the board voted on any item. Minutes of the July 22 regular meeting would come before the board for approval at a future meeting, and the policies given a first reading would return for a second reading before adoption.
