Durand school board took up bond election, interim Bertha Neal posts Aug. 3
The agenda for the Durand Area Schools board's Aug. 3 regular meeting listed a resolution to authorize a bond election, interim leadership for Bertha Neal Elementary, and a full slate of 2026-27 handbooks and course catalogs.
The Durand Area Schools board of education met in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, with an agenda that included a resolution to authorize a bond election and two interim appointments at Bertha Neal Elementary School, according to the meeting agenda posted on BoardBook.
Item VI.H on the agenda was listed as "Resolution to Authorize Bond Election." No attachments or supporting documents were posted with that item on the public agenda, and the agenda does not state a dollar amount, an election date or a project list.
Two other items dealt with staffing at Bertha Neal Elementary: "Interim Secretary for Bertha Neal" (VI.I) and "Interim Principal for Bertha Neal" (VI.J). Neither item carried posted attachments naming candidates.
The bulk of the votes-and-resolutions section covered documents for the coming school year. The board took up the Durand High School course catalog, the Durand High School student handbook, the combined Bertha Neal and Robert Kerr student handbook, the middle school course catalog and accompanying memo, the middle school student handbook, and the 2026-2027 athletic handbook. Draft versions of each were attached to the agenda.
The agenda also listed a package of NEOLA board policies with 16 attached documents. Two of them were marked for rescission — policies 3120.09 and 4120.09. The others included policies 0100, 1410, 2370.01, 2417, 4210, 4430, 5136, 5336, 6320, 6325, 7540.09, 8120.09, 8402 and 8655.
The consent agenda included minutes from the board's July 13 regular meeting and its July 20 special meeting, plus a personnel item. The agenda set aside time for public comments, reports from the superintendent and from principals and directors, and board communication.
What happens next
The agenda lists the board's next regular meeting for Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, followed by a regular meeting Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the same location. The Aug. 3 agenda does not record how the board voted on any item; minutes from the meeting are expected to be posted with a future agenda's consent items.
