Bancroft council cuts Community Hall asking price to $110,000
At a special meeting, village council members voted unanimously to lower the listing price by $10,000 and to open an auto parts account in Corunna after Vernon Hardware closed.
The Bancroft Village Council voted to lower the asking price on the village's Community Hall from $120,000 to $110,000 at a special meeting held at the Bancroft Municipality Complex, 503 W. Maple Street, according to minutes signed by Clerk Tina Holmes.
The minutes record that Trustee H. Boggetta made the motion and Trustee B. Monroe supported it. The roll call was recorded as Labadie, yes; Hutchins, yes; Boggetta, yes; Monroe, yes; and Barnum, yes. The motion carried. The minutes state the hall "is currently listed for $120,000.00" before the vote.
Council members also voted to open an account with Auto Value in Corunna. The minutes explain that "with Vernon Hardware closing their doors the Village needs to have an auto parts account somewhere." Boggetta moved and Monroe supported. The roll call was again recorded as Labadie, yes; Hutchins, yes; Boggetta, yes; Monroe, yes; and Barnum, yes. The motion carried.
Council President Brian Barnum called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. The minutes list B. Barnum, T. Holmes, H. Sammons, E. Labadie, C. Hutchins, H. Boggetta and B. Monroe as present, and F. Simpson and L. Fall as absent. The recorded roll calls named five of the seven members present; the minutes do not explain the difference.
Earlier in the meeting, the council accepted the agenda as presented on a motion by Boggetta, supported by Hutchins, with all yeas. Members also voted to accept the June 10 regular council minutes, the bills as presented, and the treasurer's report pending audit. Each of those three votes was recorded with the same roll call: Labadie, Hutchins, Boggetta, Monroe and Barnum all voting yes. The minutes do not list a total dollar figure for the bills.
In the DPW report, the minutes state that Robert has been fixing broken equipment, that the driveway is cut in along with the storage area, and that a leaking valve between Shiawassee and Sprague streets needs to be serviced. Officer Mark presented the police report. The minutes record no public comments, no communications, no committee reports and no council comments.
The document is dated "Wednesday, July 1th, 2026" in its heading, while the file posted to the village website is titled "Special-Meeting-July-15-2026." The Shiawassee Current has asked the village to clarify the meeting date.
What happens next
The minutes do not set a date for further action on the Community Hall listing or the auto parts account. The treasurer's report was accepted pending audit, so an audit result would return to the council. The council's next regular meeting date is not listed in these minutes; agendas and minutes are posted at villageofbancroftmi.org.
